I can write a simple sentence – independently or with support, or scribed

Purpose:

30-50 L Sometimes gives meaning to the marks that they paint or draw

30-50 L Knows information can be relayed in the form of print

40-60 L Gives meaning to marks they make as they draw, write and paint

40-60 L Uses some clearly identifiable letters to communicate meaning, representing some sounds correctly and in sequence

40-60 L Attempts to write short sentences in meaningful contexts

ELG L Children use their phonic knowledge to write words in ways which match their spoken sounds.

How can you help at home?

  • Talk about what they like to do at home
  • Act out there idea for diary writing
  • Encourage them to use their when writing

Key vocabulary: Blending, segmenting, diary, sound it out, write, letters, arrange, key words

Purpose:

40-60 L Uses some clearly identifiable letters to communicate meaning, representing some sounds correctly and in sequence

40-60 UW Looks closely at similarities, differences, patterns and change.

ELG L Children use their phonic knowledge to write words in ways which match their spoken sounds.

ELG UW They make observations of animals and plants and explain why some things occur, and talk about changes.

How can you help at home?

  • Discuss what is happening to the eggs
  • Get them to predict what they think might happen next
  • Ask and encourage ‘how ‘ and ‘what’ questions to aid understanding

Key vocabulary: Living eggs, incubator, change, grown, hatch, chick, warm, move, predict

I can throw a ball, with control, to a partner. 

Purpose:

30-50 PD Can catch a large ball.

40-60 PD Shows understanding of how to transport and store equipment safely.

40-60 PD Shows increasing control over an object in pushing, patting, throwing, catching or kicking it.

ELG- PD Children know the importance for good health of physical exercise, and a healthy diet, and talk about ways to keep healthy and safe.

How can you help at home?

  • Practice throwing and catching
  • Use different size and shaped balls

Key vocabulary: ball, control, thrown, catch, ready, watch, underarm

I can sequence the life cycle of a chick, butterfly or frog

Purpose:

30-50 CL Listens to others one to one or in small groups, when conversation interests them.

30-50 UW Can talk about some of the things they have observed such as plants, animals, natural and found objects.

40-60 CL Extends vocabulary, especially by grouping and naming, exploring the meaning and sounds of new words.

40-60 UW Looks closely at similarities, differences, patterns and change.

ELG CL They answer ‘how’ and ‘why’ questions about their experiences and in response to stories or events.

ELG UW Children know about similarities and differences in relation to places, objects, materials and living things.

How can you help at home?

  • Look at life cycles of different animals
  • Sequence family pictures from them as a baby to now and look at how they have changed

Key vocabulary: Iife cycle, circle, continues, caterpillar, pupa,  butterfly, egg, frog, tadpole, froglet, frog spawn, chick, chicken, change, grown, hatch, hatching
