I can make a prediction, record and test materials (waterproof)

Purpose:

30-50 UW Talks about why things happen and how things work.

30-50 CL Questions why things happen and gives explanations. Asks e.g. who, what, when, how.

40-60 UW Looks closely at similarities, differences, patterns and change. 40-60 L Enjoys an increasing range of books.

40-60 L Gives meaning to marks they make as they draw, write and paint.

40-60 CL Extends vocabulary, especially by grouping and naming, exploring the meaning and sounds of new words.

ELG CL They answer ‘how’ and ‘why’ questions about their experiences and in response to stories or events.

ELG UW Children know about similarities and differences in relation to places, objects, materials and living things.

How can you help at home?

  • Sort clothes in to what to wear in different weathers
  • Design fun waterproof coat and welly boots

Key vocabulary: Bear, investigation, fabric, waterproof, predict, record, test

I can sort fiction and non-fiction books

Purpose:

30-50 L Handles books carefully.

30-50 L Knows information can be relayed in the form of print.

40-60 CL Uses talk to organise, sequence and clarify thinking, ideas, feelings and events.

40-60 L Enjoys an increasing range of books.

40-60 L Knows that information can be retrieved from books and computers.

How can you help at home?

  • Look at different books
  • Clue hunting what type of book is it?
  • Sharing different types of texts (magazines, newspapers, leaflets etc.)

Key vocabulary: Fiction, non-fiction, story, information, glossary, index, page numbers, blurb, clues

I can name the different countries in the UK and understand a map of Watton at Stone village

Purpose:

30-50 UW Comments and asks questions about aspects of their familiar world such as the place where they live or the natural world.

30-50 CL Uses talk to connect ideas, explain what is happening and anticipate what might happen next, recall and relive past experiences.

 40-60 UW Looks closely at similarities, differences, patterns and change.

40-60 CL Uses talk to organise, sequence and clarify thinking, ideas, feelings and events.

ELG CL They develop their own narratives and explanations by connecting ideas or events.

ELG UW They talk about the features of their own immediate environment and how environments might vary from one another.

How can you help at home?

  • Look at photos of different places you have visited
  • Look at a map of your local area and in road you live in

Key vocabulary: Map, United Kingdom, England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, atlas, capital cities, London, Edinburgh, Cardiff, Belfast, holiday, visit, route

I can join pieces of Meccano together using the nuts and bolts

Purpose:

30-50 EAD Joins construction pieces together to build and balance.

30-50 EAD Uses various construction materials.

40-60 EAD Selects tools and techniques needed to shape, assemble and join materials they are using.

40-60 PD Handles tools, objects, construction and malleable materials safely and with increasing control.

ELG  EAD They safely use and explore a variety of materials, tools and techniques, experimenting with colour, design, texture, form and function.

How can you help at home?

  • Explore construction toys at home
  • Use simple hand tools including screw drivers
  • Nuts and bolts, match and tighten

Key vocabulary: Meccano, fix, join, assembly, nut, bolt, tight, turn, twist
