Celebrations and birthdays

Purpose:

30-50 UW Recognises and describes special times or events for family or friends. Remembers and talks about significant events in their own experience

40-60 UW  Enjoys joining in with family customs and routines

CL Uses talk to organise, sequence and clarify thinking, ideas, feelings and events.

How can you help at home?

·         Sharing memories of special times – looking at photos etc

·         Talking about when different members of the family celebrate their birthdays

·         Help to write important dates on the family calendar

Key vocabulary: celebrate, birthday, calendar
Creating and describing patterns

Purpose:

30-50 M Shows interest in shape by sustained construction activity or by talking about shapes or arrangements.

40-60 M Uses familiar objects and common shapes to create and recreate patterns and build models.

How can you help at home?

·         Sort clothes into patterned and plain

·         Look for patterns around the house

·         Create repeating patterns out of everyday things – fork, spoon, knife, fork, spoon, knife…

Key vocabulary: pattern, repeat, plain

I am good at… describing ourselves in positive ways

Purpose:

30-50 CL Listens to others one to one or in small groups, when conversation interests them.

30-50 L Sometimes gives meaning to marks as they draw and paint..

40-60 CL Links statements and sticks to a main theme or intention. Uses talk to organise, sequence and clarify thinking, ideas, feelings and events.

40-60 L Gives meaning to marks they make as they draw, write and paint.

40-60 PSED  Can describe self in positive terms and talk about abilities.
How can you help at home?

·         Using positive praise and reinforcement with your child…

·         Playing board games together

Key vocabulary: unique, positive
The Shopping Game – memory games

Purpose:

30-50 CL  Focusing attention – still listen or do, but can shift own attention.
40-60 CL  • Two-channelled attention – can listen and do for short span.
How can you help at home?

·         Playing a memory game such as pairs

·         Instructions – can you follow a 3 step instruction?

Key vocabulary: remember, memory listening
