I can let people know how I’m feeling

Purpose:

30-50 PSED  Shows confidence in asking adults for help.
40-60 PSED Confident to speak to others about own needs, wants, interests and opinions.
How can you help at home?

·         Encourage your child to describe how they are feeling

·         Talk about what makes you happy and sad

·         When reading stories together think about the emotions of the characters. Can you make the appropriate faces?

I can talk about what changes have already happened

Purpose:

30-50 C&L  Uses talk to connect ideas, explain what is happening and anticipate what might happen next, recall and relive past experiences. 

40-60 C&L  Uses talk to organise, sequence and clarify thinking, ideas, feelings and events.
How can you help at home?

·         Make a timeline of events or photos

·         Look back at any baby information you kept

·         Show your child photos of you starting school

I can count how many letters are in my name

Purpose:

30-50 Maths Knows that numbers identify how many objects are in a set.

30-50 Lit Recognises familiar words and signs such as own name and advertising logos.

40-60 Maths Counts actions or objects which cannot be moved.

40-60 Lit Writes own name and other things such as labels, captions.

How can you help at home?

·         Counting everything – stairs, steps, patterns on the carpet etc!

·         Writing their names – capital letters at the beginning only. Please encourage using small letters.

What makes a Happy Classroom

Purpose:

30-50 C&L Beginning to use more complex sentences to link thoughts (e.g. using and, because).
30-50 PSED  Aware of own feelings, and knows that some actions and words can hurt others’ feelings.
40-60 C&L  Listens and responds to ideas expressed by others in conversation or discussion.
40-60 PSED  Aware of the boundaries set, and of behavioural expectations in the setting.
How can you help at home?

·         Be clear with your expectations at home

·         Be consistent with behaviour expectations

·         Talk about what makes a Happy Home!

·         Discuss the differences between good and bad choices.
