Sorting minibeasts

Purpose:

40-60 UW Looks closely at similarities, differences, patterns and change

40-60 Maths Begins to identify own mathematical problems based on own interests and fascinations.

ELG – UW Children know about similarities and differences in relation to places, objects, materials and living things.

ELG M They explore characteristics of everyday objects and shapes and use mathematical language to describe them.

 

How can you help at home?

·         Sorting different objects/toys – describing the criteria used

·         Real life problem solving

Key vocabulary: sorting, criteria, problem solving
I spy in the garden book

Purpose:

40-60 C&L   Responds to instructions involving a two-part sequence.

40-60 Lit Uses some clearly identifiable letters to communicate meaning, representing some sounds correctly and in sequence.

ELG C&L Children follow instructions involving several ideas or actions.

ELG CL   They write simple sentences which can be read by themselves and others.

How can you help at home?

·         Looking at Lift the flap and Pop up books

·         Write your own story

·         Investigate Non-fiction books – share a fact with each other

Key vocabulary: book, facts, investigate

Talking about disabilities

Purpose:

40-60 UW Looks closely at similarities, differences, patterns and change.

40-60 PSED Explains own knowledge and understanding, and asks appropriate questions of others.

ELG – UW They know about similarities and differences between themselves and others,

ELG PSED They show sensitivity to others’ needs and feelings, and form positive relationships with adults and other children.

How can you help at home?

·         Talk about how everybody is different

·         Play games – close your eyes name what you can hear, giants treasure (bunch of keys in the middle can you collect without others hearing)

Key vocabulary: special, respect, care
Earthworms

Purpose:

40-60 UW Looks closely at similarities, differences, patterns and change

40-60 C&L Extends vocabulary, especially by grouping and naming,

ELG – UW They make observations of animals and plants and explain why some things occur, and talk about changes.

ELG C&L They answer ‘how’ and ‘why’ questions about their experiences and in response to stories or events.

How can you help at home?

·         Go earthworm charming by pretending that you are rain!

·         Make a wormery

·         Investigate your compost bin – how many worms can you find

·         Find out why worms are important
