Where will my magic flip flops take me?

Purpose:

30-50 Lit – Sometimes gives meaning to the marks as they draw and paint

40-60 Lit Attempts to write short sentences in meaningful contexts

ELG – Lit – They write simple sentences which can be read by themselves and others.

How can you help at home?

·         Encourage children to keep records of events or trips they have been on eg a trip to the zoo, a visit to Nanny’s house

·         Listen to what your child has written.

·         Ask questions such as “tell me about…” to encourage their thinking beyond what they can write.

Maths – recognising teen numbers

Purpose:

40-60m Counts objects to 10, and beginning to count beyond 10.

Uses the language of ‘more’ and ‘fewer’ to compare two sets of objects.

ELG

Children count reliably with numbers from one to 20, place them in order and say which number is one more or one less than a given number

How can you help at home?

·         Number hunts – where can you spot numbers?

·         Shopping – counting out what you buy. Ask how many you would have if you added more or less.

·         Play board games – teaching children to move on one more on the game board

Create a scene

Purpose:

40-60 EAD Understands that different media can be combined to create new effects.

40-60 EAD Creates simple representations of events, people and objects.

ELG EAD Children use what they have learnt about media and materials in original ways, thinking about uses and purposes.

How can you help at home?

·         Use a variety of media when making and creating at home

·         Go Big – art does not need to be kept to small pieces of paper indoors. Explore natural resources to create art outdoors.

RE – What places are special to me

Purpose:

Enjoys joining in with family customs and routines. 40-60m

They know about similarities and differences between themselves and others, and among families, communities and traditions.

How can you help at home?

·         Look for a picture as shown in the ICT activity about your special place

·         Bring photos or objects into school to share about your special place

·         Talk about the places that are special to different members of your family.

·         Are the places close by or abroad?
